best of 2007

so i had this idea that until the end of 2007, i would blog about the highlights of the year. and, of course, i am sure it will be sprinkled with low lights as well. i mean, i am who i am. and that is not positive. and not hiv positive either, thank you very much.

my first highlight: best albums of 2007. i am back in to music. i think it's my job--everyone here is a music snob. and i love it. here we go. this is no order, just the order i think of them.

1. spoon "ga ga ga ga ga"
have you heard "the underdog" yet? if not, you need to. i don't care what kind of music you like, you will love this song. i feel like it's an updated bruce springsteen and i hate the boss. seriously. this band is too good. we saw them live and loved it. i even made the wife a fan. she said she listened to this song back to back for a while one day.

2. vampire weekend "mansard roof"
this is only a single, and i only have four of their songs (that is all that is available right now), but this is really good stuff. spin called them "preppy rock" which is what led me to them. isn't that really embarrassing? the lp comes out in 2008 i think. i will buy it for sure. the name of the band is really horrible, i know. but check it out: www.myspace.com/vampireweekend

3. mark ronson "version"
yes, the r&b cover of the smiths "stop me if you think you've heard this one before" was what drew me in. it's not really a favorite of mine, because i don't feel like the singer is good. and no one will top moz. but the other tracks are really, really good. i mean, who doesn't want to hear a jazzed up version of radiohead sung by phantom planet? or would a remake of britney spears' "toxic" with odb (rest in peace) screaming "ooooh n---a i'm burnin' up!" make you happy? it makes me very happy. it's hilarious. and the music is good. also the amy winehouse and lily allen tracks are better than the songs on their own albums. on that note...

4. lily allen "alright still" and amy winehouse "back to black"
i am lumping these two together, because i feel like they should be together. and mark ronson produced both albums. you all know amy winehouse or "wino" because she is a creepy crackhead, but the girl can sing. and lily allen is just a pop singer who covers the specials on her album. it's good times. we saw lily allen this year too. she was so-so. i wouldn't pay to see amy winehouse. she wouldn't show up.

this is all i can write right now. i will come back to this list. and some more best of 2007 stuff.

mr. crankypants

i woke up in a fine mood today. a little tired, which is usual.

then i got to work and it all went down hill. i can't pinpoint the one thing that made me miserable. but it's now 4:45 and i am not having it. i am pissed. done and done. i need to go home and get some rest--i need to sleep the crank away.

maybe i am mad at the fact that i want a week off for thanksgiving this year. picture it: one full week of eating turkey. night after night of turkey coma and another bit of mashed potatoes. oh my god, i think my mouth just started watering. is it weird to look forward to succotash? and cranberry sauce (straight from the can, not home made. eww.)?

i think i just turned my frown upside down. hungryyyy.

i work hard for the money

damn straight, honey.

work has been sick the past few weeks. by "sick" i mean really, really extremely busy. some days i feel like it sucks, but on other days, i feel like it's pretty awesome. the work i've taken on over the past two months has completely changed my outlook on this job. maybe i'll stick it out for longer than a year after all (do not hold me to that statement).

but seriously, isn't it nice to end the day (even if it is too late) feeling like you've accomplished some goals? or at least to be so busy with things you are interested in accomplishing? every job should be like that. and if yours isn's, i urge you to look elsewhere.

so today is the first day when i have actually had some down time. what do i do with that down time? go straight to the internet. no, i don't take a walk around and say "hello" to my long-lost friends on the second floor (they moved me up to the 5th floor, which is like corporate america compared to the second floor). i come to the internet so i can say hello to you, my friends who read this blog.

i don't know who all of you are. but i know you care, you really care. and since i have not been posting lately, here is a list of things that have happened in my life:

1. went to ocean city, md for a weekend. that was in october. there was a corvette convention. hahha.
2. went to nyc for the weekend. stayed in the millennium hilton with a beautiful view of the world trade center hole. walked back to the room one night and all i could picture were the people who jumped out of that building to try to save their own lived. pretty fucked up. sorry for the downer. the reason we went was to see morrissey at the hammerstein ballroom. it was one of his best shows i have ever seen. and if i am counting correctly, i think i have seen him 12 times. wow, i'm like a deadhead or some shit. but for a gay 80s singer. weird, i know.
3. turned 31. and life goes on.
4. visited the family in connecticut and saw some amazing soccer moves and the ultimate cheer. also went to stephanie's wedding. great to see old friends. wish we saw eachother more.
5. had dinner with the neighbors. nice people. we don't have all that much in common, but the fact that we lay our heads about 30 feet apart from one another must mean something, right? oh and we all need to eat dinner. and drink wine, of course.

now we're all caught up. i better get back to work.
