the forbidden dance

can we please talk about the crip walk for a minute?

i made my way through a crowded bar the other night by doing the crip walk (as a joke, of course). little did i know that just by doing the dance i put my life in danger.

i just googled the crip walk and found out that it's actually a forbidden dance, very much unlike the lambada. The crip walk, or c-walk is a dance that "members of the street gang Crips would use nimble movements of their feet to spell out their names or other Crips words (sometimes spelling out Bloods, the name of their rival gang, and then crossing it out). Many Crip gangs also use the C-Walk to celebrate the initiation of a new member. It is also believed that the C-walk was used as a warning, for example in the build-up to a robbery: The lookout would stand outside of the store and act as surveillance, while the robbers would await the signal—the C-walk." (do i have to cite wikipedia here using APA style? no.)

i also read online that one could be shot for doing the crip walk. scary! while i am on the other coast from the crips, we know how the east coast/west coast thing goes. and i am not about to go out like biggie (rest in peace). so from this moment on, i will not do the crip walk in bars or even in my own house, when getting up to get myself a 40 oz. from the fridge.

i'm just gonna keep it real and walk like the hefty white dude i am. holla!
